Effective tips to soothe and relieve your itchy skin naturally
Itchiness, flakiness, uncomfortable skin tightness, Redness, wrinkly skin, and deep cracks – people who have dry skin can totally relate to these words.
Dry skin can be caused by aging, an underlying skin condition, environmental factors, frequent hot water baths, scratching the skin, or sometimes by using alcohol-based lotions. Basically, the skin requires an equal proportion of water and oil content that makes it supple and soft. When the sebaceous glands do not produce enough oil to hold the water, skin starts lacking its moisture in its outermost layer (epidermis) and it gets dehydrated.
One should immediately go see a doctor when experiencing abnormal dry skin. But other than that, with the right home treatment and self-care, you may be able to find relief for your skin.
These are the 5 most effective home remedies that may hold the secret to achieving healthy, glowing skin:
1. Stay Hydrated
95 percent of each of our skin cells is made up of water. Skin can’t function at its best without enough water. How much is enough? Well, you need to know your weight first in order to understand how much water your skin requires. multiply your weight by 2/3 (or 67%) to determine how much water to drink daily. For example, if you weighed 125 pounds you would multiply that by 2/3 and learn you should be drinking about 83 ounces (1 ounce=0.03 litres) of water every day. Water intake not just helps the skin to glow but also helps your digestive system to flush out toxins from your body. Consumption of lukewarm water with a pinch of turmeric first thing in the morning helps make your skin radiant and healthy.
2. Cleansing, Toning, Moisturising (CTM)
The CTM routine is the most important skincare regime if followed regularly, can improve overall skin texture. One of the most fruitful CTM home remedies for dry skin is by using natural ingredients. Raw milk offers unmatched skin cleansing, as it deeply cleans the pores of excessive oil, sebum, dirt, and even blackheads. Use a clean cotton ball and gently rub the milk over your skin in a circulatory motion. My vote goes to cucumber when it comes to homemade toners. It has skincare benefits including water, vitamin C, and caffeic acid, which both fight to reduce inflamed or irritated skin. Grind a cucumber with slight water. Squeeze the mixture with a cheesecloth to remove unblended pieces. Pour the liquid into a spray bottle and mix 2 spoons of rose water to amplify the hydrating mixture. Cetaphil is one of the best dermatologists-recommended moisturizers for dry skin. A mixture of Aloe Vera gel, glycerin, and vitamin E oil also makes a potent moisturizing lotion for dry skin. It works wonderfully well when applied twice a day.
3. Adequate consumption of Fruits
Fruits available in your kitchen can do wonders for your skin. Fruits are packed with vitamins, minerals, and all the essentials nutrients that can ensure beautiful flawless skin. Banana, papaya, avocado, pomegranate, kiwi, and many others can help your skin recover and gain its moisture back. So, don’t forget to massage your face and neck (or any drier parts of your body) with the fruit peel whenever you grab a fruit to eat.
4. A Facial Massage Daily
Everyday Facial massage is the most significant way of getting wrinkle-free glowing skin. It increases blood circulation of the skin and boosts the development of collagen that keeps the skin firm and supple. There are tremendous varieties of facial oils available in the market for different types of skin. One of my personal favorites is Sweet almond oil. Almonds are a nutritional powerhouse, for centuries, it has been used to soothe the skin and treat minor wounds and cuts. It can also improve your complexion and skin tone. Everyday 5-minute facial massage with almond oil can make the skin look younger and beautiful.
5. Ex-foliation & Scrubs
Exfoliation is highly beneficial to achieve dirt-free and brighter-looking skin. But some of the scrubs can be abrasive and harmful to your skin. The larger granules can tear your skin cells. The safest method of getting rid of dead skin cells is using homemade scrubs. Chickpea flour or besan is a famous traditional beauty home remedy. Oatmeal is another ingredient that has anti-inflammatory properties and helps treat dry skin. Grind an equal amount of chickpea flour and oatmeal, add 2 spoons of honey, 2 drops of lemon and make a thick paste by adding curd. Use this twice a week and wash it off with cold water to get glowing skin.
If home remedies and store-bought moisturizers do not alleviate the symptoms of dry skin, a person should consult a dermatologist as soon as possible.
